Southern California Region
Welcome to the Southern California Regional programming
contest Web Page!
1999/2000 Regional Winners!
The Caltech White team took the honors this year, followed by the Surfers. Benjamin Mathews, Miroslav Dudik and Christopher Chang will represent Caltech, and Ben Ashbaugh, Mark Baysinger and Gregory Hamerly will represent UCSD at the Finals in Orlando early next year.
Sixty teams from twenty-seven schools participated this year, making this the largest playing field for Southern California ever.

Thanks, SBCC!
for your outstanding support of the Contest. SBCC went out of its way to make extra space to accommodate all the teams, turning whole labs over to the Contest for several days in order to allow time to create and bring up the contest environment on all sixty machines. SBCC catering provided an outstanding lunch, too.
Thanks, IBM!
for your support of the contest - cash, staff, recruiting - to say nothing of Yo-yo's!!
There WILL be a Southern California
Regional Contest in 2000
(Call for Volunteers)
Adam Ravid, contest judge, has stepped in to take the directorship of the Contest. He will be meeting and working with retiring Director Marc Furon during the transition. In the meantime, the Contest needs MORE volunteers. Please consider helping if you are available in any of the following areas:
- Registrar
Setup Central Contest Web pages (fill in appropriate names and dates for the region), collect and deposit fees, print badges and certificates
- Web Master
Maintain the Regional Contest Web pages - most of the activity is a month or so before the contest and a few days after
- Judge
Write and solve problems to challenge the teams in this Region - meet 6-8 times three months prior to the Contest; work during the Contest judging problems and answering questions.
- Operations
Maintain and enhance the contest environment software (team effort); setup the environment prior to the Contest
- T-shirt coordinator
Work with the existing supplier (they're great) and the Registrar to coordinate ordering and distributing t-shirts (IBM provides the artwork; we are required to use their artwork on the front and can choose to use their artwork or design our own for the back)
- Media contact
We've never had one before, but someone to "alert the media" to the Contest
Students who have the time can perform any of the above tasks which do not directly involve the contest environment or problem set.
If you are interested, please contact Adam Ravid - soon!
