2002 General Contest Information:

• Hosted by: Columbia University in New York, NY
• Date: Sunday, November 3, 2002
• Location: Mudd Building on West 120th St
• Time: 9 am to 6 pm. Approximate schedule:
  • 9 am to 11 am: Registration, practice, breakfast
  • 11 am to 12 noon: Contestants' meeting
  • 12 noon to 5 pm: Contest
  • 5 pm to 5:30 pm: IBM and Barclay's recruiting
  • 5:30 pm to 6 pm: Awards presentation
• Cost: $90 per team plus $25 per guest
  • Teams must register by Oct. 6 (4 weeks before the contest) using the ACM ICPC web site. Teams that register after this deadline may not be allowed to participate, and will be assessed a $90 penalty per team if they are allowed to participate.
  • Coaches will be notified by Oct. 7 (3 weeks less one day before the contest) as to how many of their teams are invited to participate. At this time, the coaches must pay the registration fee for all participating teams and any guests.
  • Payment must be received by Oct. 15 (2 weeks before the contest). Make checks payable to "ACM Greater NY Region" and mail to:

  • Acknowledgement of received payment will be sent by e-mail, and receipts will be provided at the contest.
• Environment: About half the machines will run Sun Solaris, and about half Linux.
  • Solaris machines:
    • Sun Ultra 10s running Solaris 8
    • desktop/windows version: Common Desktop Environment 1.4 (CDE)
    • compilers available: GNAT gnat 3.14p, Java JDK 1.4.0, GCC 3.1.1 or GCC 3.2
    • editors available: GNU Emacs 20.7.1, GNU Vim 6.0, Pico (version unknown)
    • debugging tools available: GNU gdb 5.2.1
  • Linux machines:
    • 1GHz Intel machines running Redhat 7.3
    • desktop/windows version: Gnome 1.4 and KDE 3.0
    • compilers available: GNAT gnat 3.14p, Java JDK 1.4.0, GCC 3.2
    • editors available: GNU Emacs 21.2, GNU Vim 6.1, Pico 4.2
    • debugging tools available: GNU gdb 5.2
