site. The warmup problems can be found here.

- (Nov. 20) A final word from the Regional Director. As I have
done in messages to several coaches who filed appeals regarding the
slot allocation rules, I apologize for the delay in posting them. This year's
lessons have prompted an immediate discussion in the Steering Committee,
which should lead to a better contest, as it has happened in previous years.
I hope that universities across South America will keep their enthusiasm
and hard work in training their teams; on our side we will keep our intent
in making this a better contest every year. As it has been said many times,
but never enough, the contest is about the students, not us. I regret having
taken such a prominent role this year.
- Teams advancing to the 2004 Finals. According to the rules
below, and having 4 slots been allocated to South America for the Finals,
the following teams will advance to the 2004 Finals in Prague: U. Palermo-Depto.
Exactas representing the Argentina and Chile sites; UFPE-AM/PM and IC-UNICAMP-1
representing the Brazil sites; and USB-Se7en representing the Venezuela site.
- (Nov. 18) Official final results of the 2003 Contest. The
final, official results of the 2003 ACM Regional South
American Contest are posted in the following links, per sub-region. Changes
have occurred only in the Venezuelan region, due to appeals:
- Argentina, 1 site, about 20 teams, coming from Argentina
and Uruguay. Click here for results.
- Brasil, 4 site, about 120 teams. Click here for results.

- (Nov. 14) Rules for the 2004 Finals
slot allocation. In response to increasing synchronization problems
in a growing contest which now covers all but one country in South America,
and in an effort to boost participation in other regions of South America,
the Steering Committee has decided to switch from the predominantly merit
based promotion to the finals, to promotion based on a mix of geography and
number of participating teams.
Specifically, in case South America is given 4 slots to the
finals, 2 will go to Brazil, 1 to the union of two sites, Argentina and
Chile, and 1 to the Venezuelan site. In case 5 slots are given to South
America, 2 will go to Brazil, 1 to Argentina, 1 to Chile and 1 to Venezuela.
Since appeals are still beng resolved, final team names will be announced
only on Nov. 18.
